Most of them reported having been unemployed for more than three months, recently laid off, or without a permanent job for the previous year.
Bryan Berghoef was among the first to propose adopting laws to help Michigan residents cope with their financial issues. The politician suggested modifying the Unemployment Insurance. According to him, the state budget can allocate more funds to help unemployed individuals cope with their situation. The current unemployment insurance coverage in Michigan is among the lowest countrywide.

The politician highlighted the importance of fair lending practices and short-term solutions in times of economic hardship. Berghoef encourages responsible borrowing in a context where payday loans are safely regulated by state authorities and the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau.
Upon having analyzed the unemployment issues in the state of Michigan, Berghoef concluded that the plan for supporting the unemployed would not work on its own. The politician stated that state authorities need to improve the affordable housing strategy crisis and overall infrastructure to tackle the unemployment issue. Bryan and his team elaborated on a long-term solution and are currently seeking support from authorities to start implementing the program.
